So what has happened since the Grand Opening in April when the kitchen was put to good use by the Affordable Food Club volunteers and Scouts preparing soup for everyone?
The kitchen is already proving a great asset to the community. It has been used for a children’s birthday party and to provide refreshments for a talk hosting 120 people. It has also been used by the Twinning Association to initiate 50 French children into the joys of making scones for cream tea and NEDCare has used the hall to cook in preparation for their fundraising outdoor Big Lunch event. The Affordable Food Club use it every Thursday for refreshments and cooking.
A wedding reception has been held at the hall, a caterer enjoying the new kitchen facilities, the first wedding at the hall in over 10 years and this would not have happened using the old kitchen. The hall looked lovely. Later this month Greenhill Arts are holding their fundraising sit down 4 course dinner and talk for 100 people.
The kitchen has also been booked by a local start up business to trial making sheep’s cheese and yogurt. Knead to Connect is using the versitility of the kitchen to offer Cookery Workshops.
The old kitchen would not have supported these activities which are so beneficial to our local community encouraging more social activities and opportunities. So a huge thank you to you for supporting us so generously with our Crowdfunder, to the National Lottery Community Fund and lottery players, to the Jubilee Village Halls Fund, to Devon County Council and to Moretonhampstead Parish Council for their support. Also thanks to Wellmoor again for managing the Crowdfunder on our behalf and to Knead to Connect for donating some equipment too. And of course we must thank the volunteers who transformed the kitchen and the storage area, donating over 1000 hours of their time so wonderfully with only chocolate biscuits and coffee as payment! We really couldn’t have done it without them.
